Disappointed : P fails Sec of Treasury appointment Parsky Watch #32
December 17, 2002
PARSKY’S TREASURY HOPES DIE ANOTHER DAY
We enjoyed our post-election vacation, and we’re thinking Gerry Parsky could use one himself.
After a hard year of completely bulloxing California Republican campaign efforts for the second election cycle in a row, Parsky found himself rejected (also, a second time) for the one job he really wanted – Treasury Secretary.
Many of you may not be aware that Parsky has for years harbored the ambition to return to Washington and head the Treasury Department where he cut his political teeth in the 1970s – but we at PW endeavor to keep you informed. He was passed over last time in favor of the now-departed Paul O’Neill, and he finds himself passed over again. Oh well – always a bridesmaid, never a bride.
As you know, President Bush has instead tapped CSX Chairman John Snow. We wish Mr. Snow well, and thought you might enjoy this excerpt from the Wall Street Journal’s Monday, December 9 editorial on the topic of who the President should pick:
We hear that Mr. Bush may be looking instead to a business choice, including perhaps Charles Schwab of the brokerage house. Mr. Schwab has the advantage of not being part of the Wall Street crowd now having to clean up its research and other acts. He also well knows the virtues of private Social Security accounts, notwithstanding his lack of political experience. We'd certainly favor him over the other business names we've heard, such as Gerald Parsky, who ran Mr. Bush's California campaign, and especially Pete Peterson, the establishment deficit scold.

So, what aspect of Republican operations will be next to feel the leaden touch of Gerry Parsky?
Stay tuned – we’ll let you know real soon…
