THE PARSKY MONEY PIT, PART TWO

Gerry Parsky is often described as a successful businessman. But we thought the definition of a successful businessman is someone who actually knows how to make money?

Clearly, Parsky’s tenure as shogun of the California Republican Party cannot described as a shining example of money-making acumen. The latest case in point: the September CRP convention.

You may remember back in June when PW exposed Parsky’s mismanagement of the February convention, when he accomplished the stunning feat of turning a regular money-maker into a money-loser. Parsky and his hand-picked convention manager, Lorelei Kinder, managed to LOSE $110,000.

At the September convention, Parsky & Co. lost another $25,000. We guess that is progress of a sort, but the point is these conventions should be generating badly-needed money for the state party. So much for “professionalizing” the party.

This ain’t rocket science. The “unprofessional” CRP administrations of the past had no problem utilizing conventions as sure-fire fund-raisers. These administration lined up several corporate or individually wealthy sponsors: usually one who ponied up $50,000, a couple more who gave $20,000, and several smaller sponsors at $10,000 a piece. This covered the costs of holding the convention, and anything generated on top of that – tickets to the lunches and dinners, for example – was pure profit for the party.

Last we heard, Gerry Parsky was a fabulously wealthy man who commutes to work in a corporate jet every day. Surely, he must have five or six friends who could have tapped to be sponsors. The only reasonable explanation is he is simply too lazy to otherwise occupied to leverage his wealth and connections for the good of the party he is so megalomaniacally intent on controlling.

Gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling about the future of the California Republican Party, doesn’t it?
