PARSKY POSTS A NET CAPITAL LOSS IN SACRAMENTO

Another state party convention has come and gone, leaving the CRP is almost certainly tens of thousands of dollars poorer (gracias, Gerry and Lorelei). Now that the dust has settled, it’s time for the anxiously awaited PW post-convention analysis.

Overall, a net loss for Gerry Parsky. His hand-picked candidate, the now-notorious Bill Back, went down to defeat – sparing the California Republican Party two-years of being caricatured as a retrograde redoubt for unreconstructed racists. It will be interesting to see how Duf Sundheim enjoys the powerless position he fought so hard to win.

Parsky fought Duf hard – both here in California and in the West Wing of the White House. At on point, Sundheim’s team was forced to write Parsky demanding he cease and desist from meddling in the chairman’s race on Back’s behalf. Which is ironic, considering Duf is easily the most moderate chairman the CRP has ever had. Given Parsky’s incessant nattering about exorcising the party’s alleged extremist image, he should be overjoyed about Duf’s win – except that Parsky is all about controlling the party, not building it.

Parsky’s tirades and verbal abuse have now succeeded in alienating several Californians working in the West Wing – which should make it even more difficult to somehow keep his moldering promise to deliver those high-ranking Cabinet officials for mega-fundraisers. [Memo to Gerry: since the party is practically bankrupt, now would be a good time.]

Parsky’s mercenary camp followers fare no better. Dora Kingsley slunk out of the convention after managing Backs’ defeat – chalk up another “L” for Ms. Kingsley. Lorelei Kinder, simultaneously managing what will certainly be another money-losing convention AND co-navigated the S.S. Bill Back into that hard, cold iceberg of defeat. That’s a two-fer for Lorelei – but hey, she still gets her $6,000 convention management fee.

On the other, we cannot ignore the fact that Gerry did score a victory in the vice chairman’s race, with the election of Mario “I Love DiFi” Rodriguez over Bush 2000 California co-chair Lois Godfrey. Why does it make a weird sort of sense Gerry would support a guy who put his name to a gushing endorsement of Feinstein’s 2000 re-election? Any connection to Gerry on-going judicial Star Chamber arrangement with the senior Senator from San Francisco? Creepy.

At the Rodriguez win works out well for someone – even if it is Dianne Feinstein. If he succeeds to the top spot, he’ll be California Republican Party chairman during Feinstein’s re-election campaign. Won’t that make for a nice Feinstein mailer to GOP households?

Does Gerry Parsky care? Who knows? That’s four years from now – Gerry might have snagged his dream Washington power job by then, or maybe he’ll just be bored with politics and focused instead on buying a new LearJet.

In any case, a net loss for Parsky. Another chairman whom he didn’t support and doesn’t control, a toady in the vice chairman’s spot who’s already an embarrassment to the party, and a retinue of lackey’s who have given us fresh proof of their incompetence.
