Who is threatening to close Burbank CRP HQ? Parsky Watch #42
April 22, 2003
CRP HEADQUARTERS – IS IT BYE-BYE BURBANK?
Something is rotten in Burbank.
CRP Membership Director Ann Whitley is being transferred to the party’s Sacramento office.
This should alarm anyone who cares about the ongoing decline of the CRP since it came under the control of Gerry Parsky’s Greater California Co-Prosperity Sphere.
Whitley has been CRP membership director for umpteen years. Along with a few other long-time staffers, she constitutes what’s left of the CRP’s institutional memory.
[It is ironic that the only real permanent staff or those like Whitley who came to and stayed with the party under the old “unprofessional” regime. On the other hand, those brought in under the Parsky regime’s self-proclaimed intent to build a permanent, “professional” staff keep leaving.]
In any case, the transfer of such a key staff member to Sacramento raises the obvious concern that Parsky and Co. are plotting a slow-motion re-location of CRP headquarters to the state capital. After all, Ann Whitley has had no problem performing her duties in Burbank. So why is it necessary to transfer her to Sacramento?
Indeed, the existence of a permanent Sacramento office and staff in anomalous – historically, the CRP has only established a temporary presence there during campaign season.
Is this indeed the opening move of a permanent re-location to Sacramento? If so, shouldn’t an action of this magnitude be properly put to the party membership? Granted, actually asking party volunteers what they think would be completely out of character for Parsky and his coterie, but we had to put the question.
Just importantly, consider the practical effect of such a move. Sure, Burbank isn’t the greatest location – it is comparatively remote, inaccessible and actually makes it more difficult to attract staff.
But re-location to Sacramento is no solution. CRP operations would be hundreds of miles further from the GOP voter-rich counties of Southern California. Worse, the CRP staff would be in the center of the Sacramento politician-consultant complex’s magnetic field. As the 21st Century controversy demonstrates, CRP already find it nearly impossible to resist the demands of Parsky and the legislative leadership. Plopping in the legislature’s lap will put the CRP staff completely in their thrall.
PW is just asking some questions that need to be asked. We’ll keep you posted.
